Unique example of traditional stone building, "casina", in the Itria Valley, dating back to the late 19th , early 20th century, measuring ca. 170 sqm that sells along with a 4-cone trullo and a barrel-vaulted stone lamia of about 30 sqm. The main building, the "casina", consists of a living area branching out into 4 spacious bedrooms and leads to a kitchen with fireplace accessing the roof terrace by a staircase and a bathroom. All rooms have typical vaults ("cielo di carrozza", a sort of barrel vault with a square or rectangular shape in the middle) and there is also a cellar with external access. The trullo has an entrance with fireplace on the right and two alcoves on the left. Cistern. The lamia (in stone) is a single room with barrel-vaults. All buildings are in very sound structural condition and require the necessary works to be taken to a modern standard. The plot of land measures 20.000 sqm and has a grove of ancient olive plants.
Ceglie Messapica lies halfway between Brindisi and Taranto, halfway between the Adriatic and Ionian coasts. Ceglie’s historical centre is built around the Ducal castle which has recently undergone renovation to provide a beautiful setting for art and cultural events. The castle stands prominent along the skyline as you journey towards Ceglie and beside the castle is the main piazza (Piazza Plebiscito) where there are a number of outdoor concerts held throughout the summer. Here you can enjoy the music and soak up the atmosphere from one of the many outdoor seating areas of local cafes and bars. Ceglie is well-renowned for its culinary accolades and local shops and stores reflect the high quality of produce available.
Highly recommended restaurants include Al Fornello Da Ricci run by a husband and wife team from Italy and Mauritius. The antipasta is inspired by Pugliese traditions followed by delicate pasta dishes and ambitious meat courses (if you have room!) It’s a Pugliese culinary experience not to be missed. Ceglie also houses Cibus, a Michelin starred restaurant (situated in the historical centre), and Antimo’s, a restaurant run by a famous Italian television chef. Add to the mix a host of small trattorias and osterias and it is impossible to go hungry for gourmet treats. After dining take a passeggiata to the jazz bar or the garden bar where you can sit back and relax until the early hours.
